One of the most beautiful books to cross my desk recently is NOMA, TIME AND PLACE IN NORDIC CUISINE. It is a much appreciated gift from Fred Wilson and Elissa Morgante of Morgante Wilson Architects in Evanston, IL–tendered in appreciation for their participation in the Design Leadership Summit.

I have written at least one blog about white as my favorite color and will likely write more. My friend, Eric Mandil, has also recently written about color on The Perfect Bath. However, I was recently in Washington, DC and went to an early fall farmers market and then to the American Art Museum in the National Portrait Gallery. I was so inspired by the shades and tones of Fall and the great modern art that I decided to write about color and lots of it.

On one of our weekend adventures we decided to revisit a shop that is just a bit off the beaten path (maybe only 3 miles or so on a country road). It is called PRIVET HOUSE in the hamlet of Warren, CT.

My dearest friend, Carole Glaser, has long been a collector of many things, none of them precious. There is the great grouping of candlesticks on her dining table, quirky handmade ceramics in her kitchen, and a most notorious collection of hats and pins. And finally, there is the outstanding collection of shopping bags accumulated over many years. Many of her prized possessions trace the development of graphic and palette preferences as well advertising trends.
