Summer is fleeing and I have not posted any garden inspiration photos yet. However, I was at Hollister House recently (a Garden Conservancy property) and in addition to reveling in the voluptuous greenery and an ever fluctuating palette, I focused on the lovely garden furniture George placed strategically throughout the space.  There are great shapes, worn finishes and beautiful textures.

Jack Lenor Larsen, the internationally known textile designer, author and collector is the founder of the LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton. He acquired the 16 acres in 1970 and has been shaping and sculpting the property ever since. You enter the property through a drive, lined with giant cryptomerias in the most divine shades of green leading to the visitors’ entrance. Robert and I were in EH recently on a quick overnight to go to the beach with a detour to this fabulous property.

At least once every summer, Robert and I head north to the beautiful town of Litchfield, CT for our inspiring visit to the White Flower Farm. Originally the property was the summer home of Jane Grant and William Harris, New York based writers. They thought a house in the “country” would offer the quiet they needed to work. But, it was not long before they were seduced by nature and became zealous gardeners. Very quickly, plants and gardening took over their lives.

Robert  and I recently visited our friend George Schoellkopf at his Hollister House Garden, now a project of the Garden Conservancy. George has formed a non-profit corporation that will eventually own and maintain the property for the benefit of the public.  We applaud his extraordinary generosity.  There are so many design ideas executed in the garden I thought I would share the experience with you.
