When planning a master bath or one for the ‘kids’ or guests, it is logical to want built in cabinetry, often similar to that used in the kitchen. It provides a counter top and storage for towels, toiletries and other bath sundries. However, I would like to make a case for bath furniture rather than another set of cabinets or boxes with doors.

For those of you who have been following my Friday blogs, this highly decorative bath is an unusual post. I like this very personal statement by the designer and client who were not afraid of pattern or color. The active design of the wallpaper (Zuber 1960’s) is in contrast to the simplicity of the old dark wood  herringbone floor and low wood wainscot painted an Adamesque blue.  Small personal objects adorn the beautiful marble fireplace mantle and the chair indicates a bath where visiting and conversation are encouraged.

It is my never ending challenge to find perfect seating for the bath.  The chairs are often over scaled and the stools too small and precious.  You can imagine my surprise when I visited the elegant showroom of George Cameron Nash in Dallas this October and found not one, but five candidates for the “perfect perch”.  George’s showroom is visually pleasing on every level and easy to navigate.  The furniture and fabrics are displayed by collection and George always adds his own personal touch to make each piece appealing.  George either adds a pop of color (Chinese red is his personal favorite) in the form of decorative pillows, or upholsters in well coordinated collections of patterns.
