Barbara Westbrook, author of the new book, GRACIOUS ROOMS, loves bathrooms and treats them thoughtfully with an eye on proportions, decoration, light and views. Architectural details, color (her favorite is the color of bark and weathered wood), and materials all factor in to her thinking as she plans and executes really beautiful baths. Her classic Southern style infused with a European touch create approachable and memorable rooms.

Admittedly, I am a complete snob about hotel rooms. I travel frequently and always look to experience the comfort and logic of good design from the moment I check in. The bed must be heavenly, the sheets crisp and perfectly pressed, and the floors preferably wood or stone (so nothing can hide in the carpets). Of course I pay extra attention to the bath, and appreciate a room in which smart design has been employed so that the tub and shower fittings are intuitive and visually sublime.

At last! Our long-awaited and much-delayed Los Angeles showroom opened on December 10th. I can proudly say it was worth the wait. We have introduced our Waterworks Kitchen brand to the L.A. market with displays of our Alta and Belden cabinetry styles for the bar, laundry, pool house and mud room, as well as kitchens in wood stains and great paint colors. Each installation includes subtle or bold backsplashes, fabulous stone counters, boldly scaled pot racks, practical work tables and tempting kitchen accessories.

Exposed tub fillers were all but lost for a time, except for the modest devices used in rusting footed tubs. Their scale was very small and they delivered a minimal amount of water, usually with broken white porcelain handles. Times have changed!
