I am often asked where I find inspiration for the countless products we design at Waterworks. My first answer is always museums, although travels, architecture, books, magazines and fashion are in close pursuit. I was very excited to visit the newly renovated Yale Art Gallery where the changed and expanded spaces were inspirational and the art and decorative arts look remarkable in their new homes. And, last weekend we decided to go Dia: Beacon, Riggio Galleries in Beacon, New York, a short distance from where we live, to see some eye popping contemporary art.

When planning a master bath or one for the ‘kids’ or guests, it is logical to want built in cabinetry, often similar to that used in the kitchen. It provides a counter top and storage for towels, toiletries and other bath sundries. However, I would like to make a case for bath furniture rather than another set of cabinets or boxes with doors.

Hidden in plain sight, just a short distance from a major highway, is the remarkable Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, NY. This outdoor sculpture park is situated on 500  pristine acres of gently rolling hills, grassy knolls and flat meadows. Within this incredible setting is an extraordinarily distinguished collection of more that 100 carefully sited sculptures. The emphasis is on large scale works that change the visible landscape from any  direction and distance.

Last week I was in Palm Beach and noticed some wonderful black and white art in the windows of empty storefronts. It turns out the sketches were created by my friend, Ray Gindroz, architect, artist, new urbanist and principal emeritus of Urban Design Associates of Pittsburgh. A little further exploration, led me to a small folio Ray created for Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach in 2007. It was fun to look at the sketches and try to find the actual sites, a bit like a scavenger hunt.
