When I was in Paris I finally got to see one of the 11 exhibits of Damien Hirst’s “Spots” paintings at the Gagosian Gallery. The Complete Spot Paintings 1986-2011 was conceived as a single exhibition shown in multiple locations all over the globe. There are more than 300 Spot paintings, the spots ranging in size from 1/2″ inch to a monumental painting that has only 4 spots, each 60″ in diameter. It is said that there is no single color that has been repeated. The paintings were lent to the exhibition by public institutions and private collections.

I could not resist posting this vintage and eclectic bath from a recent issue of Elle Decor. It makes a bold yet classic design statement, especially with the box floor design and the scale of  of the tub with its grand feet. The wall covering continues the color palette from the floor in warm yellow with a touch of terra cotta. The taste of the owner is reflected in the prints on the walls simply framed. Practical  storage considerations were solved with  baskets neatly placed on an antique piece of furniture.

Charles Spada is the reigning Francophile of the Boston Design Center. He has loved all things French since childhood and had long wanted to buy a house in France. A serendipitous late night internet connection with an online real estate site delivered him, a week later, to a house in a quaint Norman hamlet that was to become his home in France and the outpost for his collecting inclinations.

Last Sunday I was on my treadmill, as I often am at 8:30am on weekends, watching Open House NYC. It is always so much fun when someone I know appears on TV. And, on January 8th Deborah Needleman, editor in chief of the WSJ Magazine and creator of the Off Duty section of the Wall Street Journal, was featured. When I first met Deborah she was the Founding Editor in Chief of Domino, the much missed youthful, lighthearted, helpful shelter magazine that made design accessible and revealed designers insider secrets.
