This year has flown by! It was January and now, in a matter of minutes, we are preparing for the holidays again.  Like many of you, I had planned a few updates to my guest bath and now I am scrambling to get them done before Thanksgiving. Most of my changes are stylistic and I can do them myself.  However, I will probably have to beg (or bribe) the contractor to get here before the family arrives. Here are some of my “quick” fixes:

Occasionally, I come across a vintage bath that is so compelling I like to post a single image. In this bath for Barbara Hutton, I loved the choice of book matched marble with just the right amount of activity on the surface, the contrasting color scheme, the classical ornamentation on the soffit over the tub and the brass tub fittings. Great design choices never go out of style.

While in LA last week I indulged in a little nostalgia.  I went to see the newly opened Diane von Furstenberg exhibition at LACMA. Her iconic wrap dress has been memorialized at 40 with the exhibit, THE JOURNEY of a DRESS. While it is indeed a celebration of the evolution of a dress, it is also a tribute to the designer herself, with paintings and photographs of her distinctive beauty and glamorous life.

I am a bit out of my league here.  This post is not about bath design or design inspiration.  It is about life inspiration. Last fall I heard Arianna Huffington, the co-founder and editor of The Huffington Post, and one of the world’s most successful women, speak at the Design Leadership Summit. What has remained with me is her concise theory on how to lead a more fulfilling life.
