Leslie Zemeckis, actor, filmmaker, author and burlesque authority, called Jessica LaGrange of Chicago out of the blue and asked her to come look at her apartment in a classic 1920s building on Lakeshore Drive. Leslie’s book, Behind the Burly Q, is about the history of burlesque in America, and she is familiar with the strippers, musicians and other members of the “burly circuit.” With this in mind, Jessica did not know quite what to expect.

I am very pleased to announce the launch of Waterworks Kitchen. After two years of design development, countless prototypes and revisions, and hundreds of new products, we are finally poised to share all of this with our clients and friends. The first big step is the opening of our kitchen showroom at the D & D Building on 59th Street, New York. There you will experience our transitional and modern cabinet designs, all built by hand in the US. You will love our take on color in the kitchen (there are no white cabinets), our fabulous hardware (the jewels of the kitchen), backsplashes galore, great stone counter tops, stunning work tables and islands, beautiful pot racks, unique fittings (prepare to be surprised), kitchen sinks (the hardest working kitchen appliance), innovative lighting concepts and a wonderful assortment of handmade and artisanal accessories. Waterworks Kitchen is truly a complete design experience.

I certainly do not know how to install tile. However, I do know a really good installation when I see one. I look for tight grout joints, carefully calculated and pre-planned cuts so there are no unsightly shapes in the grid and finally, in the case of ceramic tile, the use of correct trimmers. This edition of The Perfect Bath is about the very special tile pieces that are available to create an impeccable installation.

I think it’s official: gray is the color of the moment, especially in the bath and kitchen. As a lover of gray, I understand and support this trend. Gray is an effortless color for me; I wear it all the time and paint with it whenever possible. My favorite gray is a bit abstract; it is neither blue, white nor lavender but something in between that works well with white, black, an array of stones and rich wood tones.
