My dear friend, Carole Glaser, the shopping bag collector, accumulator of hats, pictures, pins and other original vintage shop finds has a delightful collection of candlesticks that I could not resist photographing. Each stick has a story or two. And, her personal vision for their display is to place them all together at one end of her dining table. They make quite a statement.

Paris: Door Hardware

No matter where you look on the streets of Paris, there are beautiful things to catch your eye and record with your camera. I became obsessed with door hardware on my last trip, probably because it relates so closely to the fittings that drive our business. There are examples of fine craftsmanship, centuries old, softened with age and polishing.  Even the examples that have been painted still have beautiful silhouettes and create wonderful shadows on the aged and painted wood.

Working Successfully with a Contractor

Over the past few months I have been the surrogate watch dog for a friend who had to be out of town throughout an extensive house renovation. Part of that renovation included four bathrooms and kitchen counters in addition to other things like an extended deck with fire pit, mold containment etc. The house is in a great town where inflated real estate values allow for choices one cannot always make. Those choices include the level of contractor that is hired, the extent of the renovation and finally, the material choices that can be made. In some cases, none of this is important if budget is not an issue or the plan is to stay in the house for an extended period of time (more than 20 years).
