Finally, the holidays are past, the parties a distant memory and now you can begin your winter home improvements. A good place to start is the bathroom. The planning process for a small refresh of any room is an exercise in organization, decision making, and investigation. The best results always come from taking your time and thoroughly defining the practical considerations and design dynamics of the space you are planning to overhaul.

I am asked all the time the best way to lay out a shower. There is really no “best” way. The design and layout are a function of personal preferences, budget, wall and door placement in the shower and valve selection. There are two things that are a must in my opinion: a hand shower and a place for soap and shampoo.

On one of our weekend adventures we decided to revisit a shop that is just a bit off the beaten path (maybe only 3 miles or so on a country road). It is called PRIVET HOUSE in the hamlet of Warren, CT.

My dearest friend, Carole Glaser, has long been a collector of many things, none of them precious. There is the great grouping of candlesticks on her dining table, quirky handmade ceramics in her kitchen, and a most notorious collection of hats and pins. And finally, there is the outstanding collection of shopping bags accumulated over many years. Many of her prized possessions trace the development of graphic and palette preferences as well advertising trends.
