I am not a great shopper, so whenever possible I try to make it personal and gift purchases from stores where I know I will get great service and find beautiful, unusual gifts. For me, one of those places is Waterworks. Every time I give a gift from our store I get such a delighted response.

Last Sunday I was on my treadmill, as I often am at 8:30am on weekends, watching Open House NYC. It is always so much fun when someone I know appears on TV. And, on January 8th Deborah Needleman, editor in chief of the WSJ Magazine and creator of the Off Duty section of the Wall Street Journal, was featured. When I first met Deborah she was the Founding Editor in Chief of Domino, the much missed youthful, lighthearted, helpful shelter magazine that made design accessible and revealed designers insider secrets.

I simply can’t help myself.  I am constantly tearing pictures of white baths out of magazines. What I love the most about these white baths is that they are susceptible to changes of light and shade because white is actually tinged with other colors. Additionally, as I have said before, white is a powerful color. It reflects light and transforms all the colors around it. It is a real color that projects an image of a crisp, clean and airy interior. It is timeless and always in style.

I am always looking for special objects and accessories to personalize the bath. While orchids are beautiful and I love them, they have become the ubiquitous “go to” to humanize a space. So I wanted to share some ideas that I found at one of my favorite shops in New Preston, CT, PERGOLA. Since 2005 it has been located a tiny space with an extraordinary waterfall garden in their back yard decorated with rustic benches, planted containers and aged stone garden elements.
