It has been several years since I attended the Cersaie Ceramic Trade Fair in Bologna, Italy held each September. I find it refreshing to return after an absence as new trends become more readily obvious. This year was no exception.

On my recent trip to Israel I planned some extra time to see just a few of the thousand or so Bauhaus stucco buildings that still exist in Tel Aviv. They are not hard to find or identify. Their distinctive features–from balconies, vertical glass stairwells, horizontal bands and rounded forms to the unmistakable stucco exteriors–are dotted all over the city. Clearly, some have had sensitive renovations and others are in a complete state of disrepair.

I am a completely obsessed with the New York City skyline.  Recently, I went to an event at the offices of Robert A. M. Stern at 460 East 34th Street. It was a hot but glorious evening. The guests were charming and the conversation great.  However, I quickly skipped out on the drinks and lovely hors d’oeuvres to the wraparound terraces to take photos of my favorite city views. Hope you share my enthusiasm for NYC, especially from the 20th floor.

On October 16th, Waterworks launched a robust collection of hardware. It includes transitional and modern pulls, knobs and hinges in a range of finishes. In the early stages of R & D, I went into my vast photo archive to review some of the hundreds of pictures I have taken on my travels, in shops and salvage yards to find just the right inspiration for designs. Even as recently as this past August in Paris, I was taking pictures of elaborate 19th century hardware in the Elysee Palace, Hotel Beauharnais, the French Senate, and on the streets.
