Monograms, ciphers and decorative borders add a layer of design to the simple white bath towel. While this kind of decoration could be called old fashioned and connected to another time, monograms are a creative design tool and a kind of style statement once again fashionable in the 21st century. No longer the prevue of the wealthy with access to skilled artisans, decoration on towels, sheets or napkins can be digitized with specialized machines in countless colors, fonts and borders.

I know we have all been sweltering in 90 degree heat the past few days.  But, as the first week of September and Labor Day approach, we begin to think about FALL. The kids are back to school, Saturdays are spent apple picking at the orchard and there is an abundance of fall vegetables at the farmer’s markets. Before we know it, we’ll be commenting on the beautiful foliage.

Familiar, nostalgic, pretty, dramatic, traditional, transitional and always in style. That is the clawfoot bathtub. They are a bit like chameleons; a quick coat of paint on the exterior can change the profile from soft romantic to sophisticated loft. Years ago we painted a bright sunflower on a clawfoot tub that we placed in the window of our first 58th Street showroom. It stopped traffic and was eventually bought by a famous rock star for his house in the Hamptons.

As I write this post, we are just days away from opening our showroom in London. To say the least, getting to the countdown has been challenging. The building, situated in a perfect location, was actually falling in on itself. The minute we decided to take out a wall, we knew we were in trouble– over budget and out of time. From creating a wider and more inviting stairway both up and down, repairing walls, leveling floors, installing steel beams, wiring for proper air conditioning, internet and phone, plus countless other construction details, arriving at opening day has been a long and drawn out process.
