I am just back from Cuba and have not had time to process any of my photographs. Instead, I am sharing another great bath.

I had been thinking about going to Cuba for awhile, but did not act on my impulse until a chance meeting at our Waterworks Kitchen showroom with designer Todd Klein, who mentioned a trip he was taking to Cuba. That short visit catapulted me into action to sign up the with the Sir John Soane’s Museum Foundation/Design Leadership Network tour to Cuba that took place in early June for six days. What a great decision.

At this time of year, we take out our crystal ball and start thinking about a fresh and updated direction for bath in the year ahead. Fashion is always a driver of trends. Textured and printed fabrics as well colors change seasonally so we try to extract interior design ideas from that world and incorporate them into a rational for the bath.

WORLD OF INTERIORS, always a great resource for the unusual, recently wrote about Maison du Pastel, a treasured old French pastel manufacturer in existence since 1712. I made their shop a must see on my quick trip to Paris in mid January. The tiny atelier in Paris, open on Thursday afternoons only, is hidden in a courtyard in the Marais. This firm has been attracting artists and amateurs alike in this same location since 1912. While newly cleaned and slightly updated, it appears much the same today as it did when it first opened its’ door;  a welcoming front entrance, a long wall of painted drawers, open shelves holding boxes of colors, a well used wooden counter, charming student lamp and two enthusiastic, knowledgable young women to open your eyes to the world of pastels.
