Many years ago we created the Empire bathtub, which has become an industry icon. The tub was based on a late 19th-century foot bath that we found, quite remarkably, in a salvage yard. Empire has generous curves, a wonderful rolled top and always most important, fantastic comfort. We love the fact that it can stand alone in a space and become a bold piece of sculpture.
Recently, we decided it was time for a new icon. With a design brief that included a simple shape and a modern approach, we created a tub that shares many of the same design principles as Empire–generous size, super comfort, a lovely rolled top–but deleted the generous curves. Meet Nilo, a wonderful chameleon; it can be modern or traditional, at home at the beach, in the mountains or on Park Avenue and is as comfortable as it looks.
Both Nilo and Empire are made in the same U.S. factory of a composite material. This sturdy reinvention references elements from the past while employing the most up-to-date manufacturing and engineering techniques.
